ONE OF IDENTICAL TWIN NEW SMALL TANKERS FULLY COMPLIANT WITH THE LATEST REGULATIONS WHICH MARK ANOTHER MAJOR INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE FOR A SMALL FAMILY FIRM LIKE CONSOLS.

We are very pleased with the growth of online ordering which makes so much sense for many of our customers who prefer to use this method, it suits us as well as it takes a little of the load off our invariably hard pressed telesales staff. Our revamped IT network is specifically designed to streamline the increasing trend towards online trading and billing for both domestic and commercial customers.

With the Xmas rush looming we have decided that those who choose to order and pay online ought to be rewarded so we are guaranteeing deliveries within 48 hours (it may take slightly longer if a small tanker is required). The online sales development is an extension of our service for that increasing band of customers who have expressed an interest, it is absolutely not a prelude to to dramatic changes in the way we have always worked.

Those who are unable or unwilling to order online can rest assured that they will not be kept waiting a moment longer than necessary especially now our 4 brand  new tankers are coming online, their extra capacity will be most welcome and represents a major investment in our commitment to first class customer service and continual improvement. New or existing customers can also rest assured that there will always be a friendly experienced voice on the end of the line to deal with orders or queries whenever they need us during normal working hours.

Its good to know that your local family oil supplier is there when as so often happens in busy times the bigger National Distributors get behind with deliveries due to lack of truck capacity to cope with peak demand, if you are stuck call us last, you may be pleasantly surprised.

THE BAND PLAYED WALTZING MATILDA.

poppies

I went to the remembrance service in St Day village square yesterday, a very moving experience more particulaly given the current Afghan engagement which our leaders insist is necessary as it continues to extract a terrible toll on the very best of our Countrys youngsters.

My thoughts were drawn to a song written for the film Gallipolli, another disastrous military venture that went terribly wrong in the 1914 – 1918 conflict. The songs title was “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” and depicts a young Australian horribly wounded at that time. It ought to be required listening for everyone to bring home the savage reality that our forces face.

It is somewhat ironic that the poppy, the accepted emblem of peace and remembrance is also the crop grown in Afghanistan that is such a factor in the present conflict.

Concerns about large surpluses and faltering demand raise doubts about how high oil prices will go.

According to the market imformation we purchase on a daily basis, the oil market appears to be in a state of stalemate. Gushing prophesies that the recession is over are probably wishful thinking on the part of investment bankers and politicians seeking to boost confidence, popularity and the significant short term profits that come from kneejerk equity price reactions. In the real world the continuing slowly rolling wave of insolvencies and cutbacks indicates the real prospect of a long bleak winter for many at grassroots level.

As stated in recent posts the oil price bounce is following a similar trajectory up a penny a litre down a penny a litre which in St Day speak translates into an average price hovering around half what it was at peak 15 months ago and much the same as 12 months ago. These constant irritating price bounces are almost entirely motivated by currency fluctuation rather than oil supply issues, the currrent trick of our trade is trying to buy on the right day which generates a very erratic demand pattern for our suppliers.

The agonising reality of oil approaching $150 a barrel took us to breaking point and the world has changed as a result, energy costs are uppermost in everyones thoughts and demand has contracted dramatically as the resultant recession continues to wreak its malign mischief. The price spike that caused the house of cards to collapse so dramatically was almost entirely contrived by financial trick cyclists consumed by greed and an over inflated self perception of their  own worth to society.

Early november has brought an end to the Indian Summer that saw the farmers caught up with their work and the consequent drop in gas oil demand, given the exceptionally mild weather conditions this was not compensated by any surge in heating oil demand so we have had a couple of unusually quiet weeks. Monday saw colder wetter and much windier conditions which combined with longer nights started the phones ringing again. While we are not frantically busy everyone is gainfully employed once more as we look back at a summer that could have been much worse from a business perspective, with the prospect of much better things to come as the Christmas rush looms on the horizon. To only have a couple of really quiet weeks vindicates our long term strategy of developing a diverse mix of business that majors on customer service and long term relationships rather than short term volume drives that invariably fall flat without the service to back them up.

Brent crude closed on weds at $78.13 down 20 cents the dollar was slightly down at $1.6530 and the euro was also down slightly at 89.53 pence, with Irans recent move to oil pricing in euro’s this may become very significant, perhaps we ought to have joined? DONT YOU DARE ACCUSE ME OF BEING A EUROPHILE I AM A REALIST!!!
