SUNSET OVER CAPE CORNWALL, HOPEFULLY THE SUN IS ALSO SETTING ON POLITICAL PARTIES WHO EXPECT TO DOMINATE AS OF RIGHT THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS BOTH LOCALLLY AND AT EUROPEAN LEVEL
IT IS OUR COLLECTIVE DUTY TO VOTE ON THE 4th JUNE IS A TACTICAL VOTE THE ANSWER?
Suddenly with an election looming our generally invisible, cossetted Euro MP’s temporarily assume a high profile as they scrabble for a free ride on the next gravy train soon to depart, 1st class naturally, to Brussels.
Apart from playing a bit part in the European Parliament it is difficult to ascertain what these highly renumerated drones do to justify their existence.
We are currently concerned at the scandals revolving around the fraudsters within Westminster but I wager that the European bunch of rag tags would, if scrutinised in depth, portray the crooks in our own Parliament as the bunch of greedy amateur incompetents the majority probably are.
There has never been a better time to vote tactically to teach the main party candidates a salutory lesson that the electorate is actually their master not their downtrodden serf. It would be very satisfying were the current wave of voter rage at the venality and incompetence long displayed by the political elite to be focusssed on unseating the greedy self satisfied incumbents who have done so little for their electorate.
In this case we are not talking a general election where I would probably hold my nose and vote Tory even if it were against my better judgement, the current alternative being too awful to contemplate. I am by natural instinct a right wing socialist who believes passionately in both fair play and free enterprise, care and compassion for the underdog not the cosseting of the feckless and idle. Neither do I subscribe to global corpratism or central control by diktat, as we are presently enduring, these signature traits of the evil New Labour project that have landed us where we presently are.
As the Tories look increasingly likely to form a future Government with a potentially significant majority I have the recurring nightmare of their leader David (call me Dave) Cameron evolving into A sort of mark 2 Blair, I hope I am wrong.
Having seen Mr Cameron in action live at close quarters he is an undoubtedly polished and slick performer who seems well on top of his brief. For everyones sake it is sincerely hoped that he is as caring and decent as he appears at present. He is to be complimented on the way he has pounced on the unsavoury miscreants that are currently being purged from within the tory ranks
Both the local council and European elections are fertile ground for independents, even oddball candidates, who with the benefit of tactical voting could deliver a massive kick in the ballot box to those who assume it is their God given right to rule over us. They brazenly seek re-election irrespective of their past performance which has been generally lamentable and realistically offers little prospect of future improvement.
The new Cornwall Council is another a classic case in point where the truly awful Lib Dem incumbent majority hopefully face anhilation by angry voters who are witnessing first hand the outcome of their arrogant folly that will continue to cost us all dear far into the future.
In come the Tories confidently pitching to assume the Lib Dem mantle as the majority group when it is patently clear that there is no place for cancerous corrosive party politics in local government. What is clearly needed is a council of independent members working together, who put their electors first without any allegiance to a central party machine whose main ethos is to hang onto power at any cost.
DICK COLE, A LOCAL MAN IS STANDING AS THE MEBYON KERNOW CANDIDATE IN THE EUROPEAN ELECTION. IF HE DOES WELL IT WILL BE A MAJOR UPSET FOR THE BIG 3 PARTIES IN THE SOUTH WEST, THEY SHOULD BE AWARE, THE NATIVES ARE RESTLESS FOR A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER IN BRUSSELS, THAT DOES NOT NECESSARILY INVOLVE THEM.
Do we really know who we are voting for in the European election? Proportional representation which at first sight is a great idea actually morphs into a nightmare as we have no specific member to represent our particular area. Members are elected off a party list decided by who knows who.
Mebyon Kernow portrays itself as the “Party for Cornwall” in this instance it is a very good starting point, the candidate Dick Cole is local and could not possibly be worse than some of the other party chosen and inflicted non entitys seeking the plum jobs.
What an upset it would be if Cornish people lived up to their motto “onen hag hal” (one and all) and elected a personable decent local boy to represent them in Brussels. This is the sort of resounding blow that the main political parties need to kick them into line and really start facing up to a few home truths.
WHOEVER YOU VOTE FOR PLEASE USE YOUR VOTE WISELY, BUT ABOVE ALL MAKE THE EFFORT TO VOTE AND HELP DRIVE THE CHANGES NEEDED.
AN ANCIENT CORNISH CROSS WHICH ILLUSTRATES THE TIMLESSNESS OF OUR LAND THAT HAS WITNESSED SO MANY THREATS DOWN THE CENTURIES BUT NON SO INSIDIOUS OR PERNICIOUS AS THOSE FACED TODAY AS A RESULT OF OUT OF CONTROL POLITICIANS FEATHERING THEIR OWN NESTS AT OUR EXPENSE.
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE LESS UNFORGIVABLE HAD THEY PERFORMED WELL AND NOT BEEN SUCH MONUMENTAL HYPOCRYTS.
